The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) is presently conducting a homicide investigation near Cypress Grove Lane in Seagrove, Fla.
A missing person was reported to the WCSO earlier today. The case has evolved into a homicide investigation. The WCSO is in the process of interviewing persons of interest and area residents who may have information regarding this case.

The U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitives Task Force today announces the arrest of Kevin William Phillips, 46, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., on a Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) warrant for sexual battery of a victim under 12-years-old, a first-degree felony. The WCSO is a member of the task force.
The WCSO investigation began May 13, 2010 after deputies received allegations that Phillips sexually assaulted a four-year-old girl between March and May 2010.
WCSO investigators established probable cause for Phillips’ arrest after DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
Phillips was arrested May 13 at a residence located in Andalusia, Ala. and booked into the Covington County Jail. He will be extradited to the Walton County Jail.

The Walton County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) yesterday concluded a burglary and theft investigation and charged John Thomas Watson, 33, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and Jean Irene Helmick, 27, of Freeport, Fla., on multiple charges.
The WCSO investigation began March 16 when a victim reported items were stolen from his residence. The investigation revealed that Watson and Helmick unlawfully entered the victim’s residence on or about March 11 with the intent to deprive the victim of personal property.
Watson and Helmick were arrested by the DeFuniak Springs Police April 3. Helmick was arrested for driving while her license was suspended. Watson was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
The WCSO investigation revealed that Helmick allegedly stole a utility trailer. She was charged with larceny theft of $300 or more but less than $5,000, a third-degree felony; and making fraudulent statements under oath, a second-degree misdemeanor.
Watson allegedly stole an ATV and a firearm and sold the items to individuals who were unaware the items were stolen. He was arrested by the WCSO and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, a second-degree felony; burglary, a first-degree felony; and dealing in stolen property, a second-degree felony.
Watson and Helmick were served arrest warrants yesterday at the Walton County Jail.
